Fy. from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/HEW. C. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X6118 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/HEW3/ADLO.7.31. BATTERY IGNITION DISTRIBUTOR TOWER. We have noticed after extra high speed running on the test bed with both Phantom II and 20/25 engines that the distributor tower becomes very loose on the automatic advance extension presumably due to excessive vibration. This looseness seriously affects the satisfactory functioning of the ignition at high speeds as it allows the contact breaker gap to vary. We should be glad if you could instruct experimentally an arrangement whereby the distributor tower is suitably bushed in order to prevent rapid wear at this point. At present, as you know, it is aluminium to aluminium. We suggest a bronze bush would be much better proposition. We should like at least two sets instructed as soon as possible.
