etc., we have recommended a modification to the way in which the main battery cable passes into the base of the switch; see Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}3/MT.24.10.40. We have modified several cars in this way, including 9-B-V.{VIENNA} Mr. Hunt has this scheme in hand.

DISTRIBUTORS.

With regard to distributors, we have nothing much to add to that given in our review on electrical equipment Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EC.1/MT.17.6.40, except that numerous tests have been carried out on all types of distributors, including those off the cheaper cars such as Morris 8, etc..

We have also obtained experimental units for the distributors for B.40 and Myth.

We have been requested to supply vacuum units for the distributors for B.60 and B.80. All the latest distributors have these attached.

In the case of the B.40, Delco-Remy model, the vacuumatic control is built in the tower of the distributor. It is not possible to do this with twin lever distributors owing to contact breaker arm reaction, and for this reason the vacuumatic control for the B.60 and B.80 type are not integral with the contact breaker tower, but are separate units clamped round the distributor shaft housing.

A Delco-Remy B.80 distributor has now completed 38,176 miles on 30.G.VII without any trouble. This unit was examined and adjusted by the Laboratory after 48,176 miles (see Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}2/MT.4.10.40), when it was found to be in very good condition. It was pointed out that there was no appreciable play between the governor shaft and the bronze bush forming its bearing. We have informed Messrs. Delco-Remy that this bush is necessary, since our experience has shown us that those models having a plain cast iron bearing, are definitely inferior.

The Lucas models have a bronze bush. We can supply, if called for, governor characteristic curves of Rover, 4 and 6 cylinder, Hillman 10, Vauxhall 10 and Morris 8.

Following is a table showing the various weights. It will be noticed that the B.40 Delco is too heavy at the moment and will either have to be lightened by the makers, or changed for the Lucas type M4A. (Vauxhall 10).
