Contd. -5- EH1/LG20.9.19. We found that if we had a piston so that the rubber was on the non-pressure side of the cylinder there was no sign of a knock but if we had the rubber on the pressure side of the cylinder the piston would knock. With no rubber pad on at all the piston would knock either way round. PISTON WITH PAD ON PRESSURE SIDE. X.3651. We have practically completed a piston with a pad on the non-pressure side. The piston we have, the pad is operated by springs. We shall by means of this be able to see whether the pad, operated by the oil pressure is likely to be of any use. X.3663 The most hopeful thing we have got at present is a long piston and we are giving this preference because if they have the desired effect, they appear to be the nicest and quickest way of overcoming or reducing the trouble.
