COPY. May 4th. 1942. Messrs Rolls-Royce Ltd. Derby Dear Sirs, Further to our last letter of March 18th. we should be glad of some further information from you, before we meet to discuss our proposed lay-out for the transmitter on your Bentley chassis. We are giving certain drawings which we need together with the reasons so that, if you do not think the drawings mentioned contain the necessary information, you will be able to supplement them. (1) Gear box casing. [Handwritten: GB.4814, GB.4812, RG.{Mr Rowledge}463/4, RG.{Mr Rowledge}1913 Sht6, RG.{Mr Rowledge}171.] This is for the longitudinal position from the rear engine face of the speedometer and Servo drives. [Handwritten: GB.4830.V] For the bore, stud centres and general design of the portion of the g ar box, housing the speedometer drive. For the position and general design of the facing to which the tie rod bracket is attached. For the longitudinal dimension to the rear facing of the gear box. For the diameter and design around the plunger locating the near side bearing in the Servo shaft. [Handwritten: E 78412.] For the position and design of the bosses to which the housings, drawing No.E.78412.T are fastened. (2) Gear box tail shaft. [Handwritten: RG.{Mr Rowledge}1913 Sht3] For the design of the spline and the method of bolting and locking the rear driving flange. (3) Bolt, fixing flywheel. [Handwritten: RG.{Mr Rowledge}193., GB.4879, RG.{Mr Rowledge}1913 Sht3.] Mainly required for the design of the bolt head, as we have no knowledge of how close the crankshaft flange is to the engine facing. (4) Gear lever and Reverse Light Switch. [Handwritten: RG.{Mr Rowledge}1913 Sht7, GB.4837, GB.4939, GB.4840BC.] The standard Rolls-Royce gear lever will not be suitable for our purpose and we should appreciate these drawings to see how the reverse light switch is housed. We should also be glad if you would let us know whether any special arrangements are made for ensuring a joint between the gate bracket and the floor of the vehicle. Yours faithfully Turbo Transmitters Ltd. Managing Director. | ||
