Dear Mr. Jones,

Many thanks for your letter of June 6th. I am very sorry that the samples of steel and bronze have not yet reached you. This is because we desired to send them to you with a ground finish and the Department concerned mislaid the pieces.

I think we can promise you shall have them by the end of next week.
