To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} X20V Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/MthssS/KW.7.12.35. Bentley Endurance Units. We should like you if possible to make a routine examination of certain parts whenever a Bentley endurance engine is returned to the shop. The following list covers the items that have so far given the most trouble on endurance, and some of these have often had to be replaced during the test, and we suggest that all these items are thoroughly examined before engine is returned to test. (1) Pistons. (2) Bearings. (3) Connecting Rods. (4) Connecting Rod Bolts. (5) Crankshafts. (6) Crankcase top half. (7) Valves. (8) Valve Springs. (9) Water Pump Spindles and Glands. (10) Felt oil Seal at Rear Bearing. (11) Ignition Distributor Towers (these wear badly and develop a wobble which varies the gap and causes misfiring at high speed).
