directly on to the valves and the clearance between the cams and valves for running conditions is .012" - .014".
The valve lift with no clearance is .305 for both inlet and exhaust valves.

The valve timing with .014 clearance is :-

I.O. 1.3° B.T.D.C. E.O. 46.0° B.B.D.C.
I.C. 59° A.B.D.C. E.C. 15.8° A.T.D.C.

The inlet valve duration is considerably greater than that stated in the hand book but the exhaust duration is exactly the same. The valve timing according to the hand book should be :-

I.O. 5° B.T.D.C. E.O. 45° B.B.D.C.
I.C. 35° A.B.D.C. E.C. 13° A.T.D.C.

The actual duration of each valve with .014 clearance is :-

Inlet 240.3° Exhaust 241.8°

OIL PRESSURE AND CONSUMPTION.

The oil pressure when the oil is hot and engine running at high speed is 28 lbs/sq.in.

No figures have been taken of the oil consumption but it appears to be reasonably low and very little oil is lost by leaks. The general cleanliness of the engine is remarkable and scarcely any oil can be seen after prolonged runs at high speed.

ACCESSIBILITY.

Whilst on the bed the accessibility of all main components is exceptionally good, sparking plugs are easily changed, whilst the ignition distributor, dynamo, starter motor, and carburetter, can all be examined in very short space of time.

FUEL.

The fuel used was D.T.D.134 (i.e.) 75/25 Aviation/Benzole with 2% oil added as recommended in hand-book.

Attached are curves of all tests finished to date.

Ha/G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Mathews.
