TEST 3.

This test will consist of switching the motor on and off intermittently under load (about 10 secs. on and 10 secs. off) for a period of 5 minutes and will serve in addition as test No.3 of Section C of the Series Connected Main Switch & Actuator Box (which see). During this test the motor should be observed for satisfactory general starting and running (in particular the commutator and brushes should be watched), also the main switch should be observed in order to make sure that the flashing at the moment of break is undoubtedly taking place on the carbon contacts and not on the copper brush.

TEST 4.

INSULATION BREAKDOWN TEST.

While still warm from the above tests an alternating voltage of 210 from the lighting mains shall be applied through a light fuse, for 20 minutes without breakdown, between the armature and field windings and the motor casing.

TEST 5.

INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST.

Insulation resistance now taken must not be less than one megohm.
