400f SECRET. S/W. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} re- "Silver Ripple", 12-B-V.{VIENNA} Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}10/KW9.6.39. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has returned to me the original of my Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}5/KW7.6.39, as he is not quite clear as to the reason why the position of the gear lever appeared to be rather in the way of getting in and out on the offside. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} was under the impression that the "Silver Ripple" 12-B-V, except for the 3 1/2 litre engine, was in fact a standard B V.{VIENNA} chassis. If that is the case it would either appear that on the B V chassis the gear lever is not in as good a position relatively as it is on the Wraith and P.III, or the lever on the "Silver Ripple" is not in the standard position. It certainly struck me that it was in an inconvenient position for getting in and out, and I noticed that C. when he got into the car climbed over the lever, so that it must have impressed him similarly as being in an inconvenient position. Would you please enlighten us on this point. As regards the paragraph dealing with the body and the absence of foot room under the front seats for those sitting at the back, I think I have already mentioned in the memo the points on which we should like information, so perhaps you would reply to that at the same time. Actually, I suppose my memo Cx{Major Len W. Cox - Advertising Manager}5/KW7.6.39 should have been addressed to you with copies to the others, as it is naturally from you that we shall expect to receive the necessary information.
