Re TELEGRAM FROM MARSEILLE DATED 22.2.24

The telegram referred to reads as follows:-

“WORMALD ROLLS-ROYCE DERBY ENGLAND.
ROYCE AGREES AS COMPROMISE INDEFINITELY TO POSTPONE PRODUCTION OF E.A.C. FOUR PROVIDED THAT IN E.A.C. TWO THE STARTER MOTOR IS TAKEN OFF GEARBOX AND PUT ON ENGINE. IF YOU SEE NO OBJECTIONS ASK HOWLEDGE TO CONCENTRATE WITTERING WORK”.

With regard to the starter motor being taken off the gear box and put on the engine, I assume it is still intended that the first E.A.C.2 should use the old starter motor on the gear box, every effort being made to get the starter on the engine as quickly as possible. The details of the application of the quiet engagement and operation have not reached Derby. The present scheme is good and sound, and we think should be used until the new one has been made and tested.

Rg.{Mr Rowledge}
