SEQUENCE STARTER MOTOR NO.2 SCHEME.

In regard to RL/M16.5.27 and EFC3/T18.5.27, would you please instruct the following alterations :-

(1) Main control spring of finer gauge to give 66% present force and with as many turns as will just not go choc-a-bloc, so that the force of the spring does not vary so much between its two extreme positions.

(2) Move the pole pieces so that the armature in its full-in position is .25 out-of-centre in place of .125".

(3) Instruct for the armature to be machined on the outside and (as appears necessary) instruct new pole pieces, both armature and pole pieces to be machined tapered to give the present air gap when the armature reaches its most inward position (.125" off centre), but to give .050" air gap when the armature is in the most outward position.

We wish in the first instance to try the effect of these alterations, i.e. before instructing certain others referred to in Mr. Royce's note.

In regard to the alteration of the armature, I think it will be found that this can be done on the present armature without touching the windings, though it appears that new pole pieces will be necessary.
