PAGE 1 (RIGHT) PRESTONE for Permanent Protection Against Frost THE problem of protecting Motor Cars from freezing arises every year with the first cold snap. Cracked water jackets, broken radiators and split hose connections result from neglecting to secure and maintain the proper radiator mixture. The repair or replacement cost of a damaged radiator or motor block is a very costly matter, as well as causing great inconvenience. Permanent insurance against this may be obtained at a comparatively small cost by using a sufficient quantity of Prestone to give permanent protection throughout the winter season. An ideal anti-freeze solution is one which:— (a) Will prevent freezing of the radiator liquid without injuring either engine or radiator. (b) Will not lose its non-freezing properties after continued use. (c) Will not materially change the boiling point of water when dissolved in it. Prestone is a compound which meets all these conditions and, furthermore, it is non-poisonous, non-inflammable, non-corrosive and odourless. The advantages of Prestone over other anti-freeze compounds are briefly summarised in the following six points, which every motorist has to consider when selecting an anti-freeze compound. PAGE 2 (LEFT) Your Dealer has a special tester to determine accurately the degree of protection which a Prestone solution will give. TABLE. Capacity of the Entire Cooling System in Gallons. Approximate Amount of Prestone (in Gallons) to be added for protection at the following temperatures. | Capacity of the Entire Cooling System in Gallons. | To 10°F.{Mr Friese} above Zero. | To 5°F.{Mr Friese} below Zero. | To 30°F.{Mr Friese} below Zero. | |---|---|---|---| | 2 | 1/2 | 3/4 | 1 | | 3 | 3/4 | 1 | 1 1/2 | | 4 | 1 | 1 1/2 | 2 | | 5 | 1 1/4 | 1 3/4 | 2 1/2 | | 6 | 1 1/2 | 2 1/4 | 3 | The following are a few typical instances of the quantities required :— Amount of Prestone (in Gallons) to be added to give protection. | CAR. | MODEL. | Capacity of Cooling System in Gallons. | To 10°F.{Mr Friese} above Zero. | To 5°F.{Mr Friese} below Zero. | To 30°F.{Mr Friese} below Zero. | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | Morris Oxford | — | 3 1/4 | 3/4 | 1 1/8 | 1 5/8 | | Morris Cowley | — | 3 1/4 | 3/4 | 1 1/8 | 1 5/8 | | Austin | 7 h.p. | 1 3/4 | 1/2 | 3/4 | 1 | | Ford | 24 h.p. | 2 1/2 | 3/4 | 1 | 1 1/4 | | Armstrong Siddeley | 12 h.p. | 3 1/4 | 1 | 1 1/4 | 1 3/4 | | ” ” | 20 h.p. | 4 3/4 | 1 1/4 | 1 3/4 | 2 1/2 | | ” ” | 30 h.p. | 7 | 1 3/4 | 2 1/2 | 3 1/2 | | Buick | — | 3 | 3/4 | 1 | 1 1/2 | From the above it will be seen that a solution consisting of 2 parts water and 1 part Prestone is sufficient to give adequate protection against 30 degrees of frost. | ||
