| 436 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rn.{Mr Robinson}12/KW. 20th, March, 1935. The Light Production Co.Ltd., 60/66, Rochester Row, Westminster, LONDON, S.W.1. For the attention of Mr. Brooks. Dear Sirs, We hope that you received the cracked pistons alright. We sent you 3 cracked and 2 uncracked so that you could inspect them for yourselves. We kept one which was cracked in both bosses and cut it up for our own information and - whether purposely or not we do not know - the gudgeon pin boss appeared to be cast eccentric to quite a marked extent. We are still extremely interested in these lightened pistons, as pointed out to you on the telephone, because they undoubtedly give us a smoother engine, and should therefore be glad if you could modify the die as soon as possible and let us have some more to test, together with the lightened gudgeon pins. With regard to the pistons we were going to ask you to grind with one of your cam forms, attached is a print showing the approximate form we think we should like. We shall be glad to know whether you have a cam which corresponds to this. Our suggestion is that we send you half a dozen of these pistons and get two of each ground to one particular cam form of yours so that we shall have bracketed the dimensions at which we think we shall require to run the pistons, and decide which finally is the nearest. | ||
