July 27th 1922. Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road. Derby. Dear Sirs, We are in receipt of your letter of the 26th inst., enclosing copy of your sketch No. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} 52003 for the "Sylphon" Tubes for Thermostat Work. We note that you specify the thickness of metal .006 to .008, tubes of such dimensions for corrugating purposes are not made, and there is only one possible way of producing them and we are not at all certain whether by this particular method perfectly sound tubes are obtained. We are however, making certain tests. In the meantime we have pleasure in forwarding you to-day a sample bellow of our standard type and shall be glad to know whether this would answer your purpose, if made to the desired diameter. We further beg to enclose our drawing No.T.340 shewing our shutter regulator for radiators. This is made with a special regulating cylinder for quickly putting the regulation in and out of action for the purpose of aeroplanes. For motor cars this particular method of regulation will of course not be necessary and if an adjuster is necessary at all it can be of our standard type as per enclosed coloured print No.40. We still believe that on the whole you will find the working on liquid pressure according to our system preferable to the working on vapour pressure. We are, Dear Sirs, Yours faithfully, THE STEAM FITTINGS CO. LTD. BRWingfield BRW/BEH. Encl. Print T.340. L.40. [Stamp: NATIONAL SCHEME FOR DISABLED MEN] W.F. 5. 6/21. 5,000. G.G.
