To BJ. } FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} } c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} RG.{Mr Rowledge} CWB. c. to BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} PN.{Mr Northey} OY. Mr. Fuller. X457 R2/M29.5.26. PHANTOMS - MEDIUM PRESSURE TYRES AND STEERING. X.457 X.8820 X.8430 X.8450 (1) Providing the hydraulic dampers prevent high speed steering wobbles there is no doubt that - (2) Medium pressure tyres are a wonderful benefit for - Steering shocks. Body noises. General safety and comfort. but it will be necessary to use - (3) The more flexible springs in steering tube, 1500 lbs. per in. instead of 3500. on all cars with the small dia. of worm. (4) The .940 worm in the original Phanton box instead of the 1.125 is also a decided improvement, also (5) The stay to the steering column which seems simple, unobtrusive, and effective. These are the 5 items being tested in France at high speeds on rough roads, and we must hardly expect complete agreement by Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} PN.{Mr Northey} and CWB. I have tested all separately and am of the decided opinion that we should adopt them as standard unless more information is forthcoming. There is a better front axle as a sixth item which should be here this coming week. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
