India, that all cars and lorries working during the summer in the hot districts of India should be fitted with cowls. In some cases the types of car used did not admit of the cowl being fitted, but the alteration was made on most vehicles, and I was told when I was in India in 1922/23 that the use of cowls had been very successful, and that drivers reported a distinct improve-ment in cooling. The present type of radiator on the standard Indian chassis made by Thornycrofts and Leylands is considerably larger than that in ordinary use, and I believe all the Indian lorries are now fitted with this larger type. In winter when the air is cold baffle plates are fitted temporarily to these big radiators, and this practice appears to act quite well in avoiding the over-cooling which would otherwise take place.

I hope these few remarks may be of some use to you.

(Sgd) Montagu.
