Dear Sir,

Ref: Fluid Transfer Ltd.,
Dickinson Pump.

Mr. Robertson has informed us that you have received word from Messrs. Rolls Royce, Ltd., that the "only disadvantage they have found is that the delivery falls off rapidly with an increase in depression on the suction side."

I should like to point out that Mr. Plumb mentioned this to me some days ago and that his remarks apply to the High Pressure Oil Pump only, and not to the Fuel Pump. This latter he hopes to test out at an early date.

Reverting to this High Pressure Oil Pump, Mr. Plumb explained his method of testing the Oil Pump output by varying the depression on the suction side of the Pump. I pointed out how misleading is this method of testing, which not only reduces the effective atmospheric pressure but also reduces the amount of fluid down to the quantity which the restriction will allow to pass in a given time. The method adopted will certainly increase the velocity but it will also reduce the quantity of fluid to the Pump. By restricting the inlet of the Pump one is only reducing the capacity of the Pump.

The true method is to vary the suction lift between the Pump and the fluid to be raised with an unrestricted inlet.

This latter method Mr. Plumb promised to carry out in his next series of tests.

Yours faithfully,
For FLUID TRANSFER LIMITED.

(Sgd) R.{Sir Henry Royce} H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} DICKINSON.

Director.
