Testing Aero Engines.
(Mechanics Flying).

I understand that sometimes it may be necessary for our mechanic-testers to fly when testing machines with Rolls-Royce engines. I believe this is already done in some cases.

There seems no reason why it should not continue, provided our really valuable experts do not fly, namely, such men as we could not easily replace. Of course, heads of Departments, such as Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, BP., etc. would not fly.

We do not consider it is necessary to raise this matter officially, as if we did so, the probability would be that the men would require considerably higher pay, or heavy insurances.

Do you know what arrangements are made by other firms whose mechanics have to fly very occasionally? I of course do not refer to men who continually have to go in the air.
