The remarks under (Bc) above again apply exactly in this case, it being clear that the combination of ebonite and wood is definitely better than wood alone, and further that in all probability thicker ebonite at the expense of the wood would be a still further advantage.

It should be mentioned that the cell container of this battery is a six-compartment moulded Dagenite cell case, which construction is not as yet standard for our 20 HP. chassis batteries, and that the mechanical condition of this container after removal of the cells was found to be O.K. with the exception of the distortion of the ebonite strips which are moulded in on the ribbed plate supports to prevent the plates sinking into these ribs. We are, however, assured by Messrs. Peto & Radford that this trouble has now been overcome.

Before opening up the cells of the battery the series connecting links were all sawn through so as to electrically to insulate one from every other, and an insulation test was made from each cell to the others at 100 volts through a sensitive milliammeter which would easily have shown .1 m.a. At 100 volts difference of potential from cell to cell not a sign of any leak current was shown in any case, satisfactorily proving the imperviousness in the cell walls to the acid electrolyte.

This battery was opened up in the presence of Mr. G.R.N. Minchin and Mr. Preston of the Peto & Radford Co. who duly noted the observations contained in the above report.
