1332 DUNLOP RUBBER CO.,LTD. TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: "DUNLOPS, PHONE, BIRMINGHAM" TELEPHONE: ERDINGTON 2121 (P.B.X) EXTENSION No. 395. YOUR REF: OUR REF: HEP/WS.259. FORT DUNLOP ERDINGTON BIRMINGHAM 24 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Limited, DERBY. For the attention of G.H.Grylls, Esq. 18th July, 1938. Dear Sirs, Further to our letter of the 8th July, we have now completed our tests on samples of rubber taken from the two covers, which the writer brought away with him from your Office. Our Laboratory report confirms the writer's impression at the time he inspected the covers with you, and confirmation is given that the abrasion value of the tread rubbers is up to our required standards. We can therefore only assume that the comparatively short mileage on this section cover is due to the conditions of service, which include climatic condition and utilisation of your car's high performance. As a matter of interest, cover No.99234H1 shows evidence of lateral friction, together with a slight 'feather edge' which might suggest that it had been run in a front position and as a feature associated with misalignment. Perhaps you could confirm that this Tyre has not finished off its life on the front axle. We are holding the two covers pending your disposal instructions and we should be glad if you would let us know, in view of our report, whether we are to send them back to you as requested. Yours faithfully, FOR THE DUNLOP RUBBER CO.LTD. H.B. Rice Manager, Car Manfrs. Division. [Handwritten Notes] 18/7/38 Give Neither of the tyres were at any time run on the front.
