SPECTRECodename for Phantom III - Gearbox, with horizontal hand brake.

N.Sch.4468 herewith shows the shortened pendulum lever in the gearbox for the actuation to compensate for the reduction of length of the gear lever which is used with the horizontal hand brake scheme.

The top and 3rd selecting rods have been stiffened in the vertical plane to provide for the increased bending moment which they now have to resist, which will cause them to bind in their bearings if they are not sufficiently stiff.

A pattern alteration is required as indicated to give clearance for the jaws on the rods.

This scheme also shows a rocking shaft for the actuation of top and 3rd, formed in one piece with the stirrup levers to reduce cost of manufacture and weight. The end bearings for the rocking shaft are smaller in diameter than now and the flanges on the bearings are also smaller. The latter alteration requires a slight pattern alteration.
