1212 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} by file have one for Policy Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}12/ML.22.11.40. CUSTOMERS RUNNING B.V. CHASSIS IN WAR-TIME. We have looked through the previous Memos on this subject and find that the only person in whom we are really interested is Wilmot Breedon. Our object in selling him a car is that he may fit to it all the various door locks, window lifters and other body hardware which he will be supplying us with at the end of the war. Of the people mentioned on your Memo. reference Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}3/E.30.10.39, we would pick out Mr. Devereux as being the person who would drive the car hardest. We also hope that he will co-operate with us in making light cars after the war. Furthermore, he is running a Lagonda at present, which we think is wrong. If Devereux does not want the car, we would rather George Eyston had one than someone we do not know but this is, of course, a minor issue. Incidentally, we are not very happy about the gearbox position. You will recollect that we had a complete failure on 30.G.VII. and neither the box on Lp{Mr Lappin}'s car nor on Barnato's is up to Rolls Royce standards. However, there does not seem to be much we can do about it at present, since in the National interest, it would hardly be desirable to complete the new design of box which was partially machined at the ourbreak of war.
