1263 Experimental Dept. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}11/JH. 24th May, 1937. Messrs. Superflexit Ltd., Trading Estate, Slough, Bucks. For the attention of Mr. Trouson. Dear Sirs, We have completed 20,000 miles running with the Superflexit flexible petrol pipe on a Phantom III. The fuel used contained alternately 4% and 18% Alcohol, the tank being filled alternately with Esso & Azure. Though there is no sign of leakage anywhere the pipe appears to have stiffened up considerably and we should be glad to have your opinion on the matter. We are forwarding it to you for examination. We are also enclosing material collected in the filter at the carburettor end of the pipe which shows the celophane has flaked off and hardened. In view of the fact that the failure of the last pipe tested was due to this hardening we feel the present sample, though still petrol tight, is well on the way to failure and has prdbably not had so severe temperature conditions to complete with as the previous pipe. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
