Referring to your memo Sr/VA.4/ET.27.9.38. reporting the failure of No.2 connecting rod, this is the first case of a rod failing on the 25/30 HP. chassis I have heard of, and although the trouble did not actually occur on the Autostrad, it is fairly certain this is where the trouble began, and in view of our warning in regard to Autostrads, the customer should pay for re-conditioning the engine. In regard to drilling extra and opposite holes in the main journals and crankpins of the crankshaft, we have not found this to be necessary, and see no reason why we should do same in this particular case. In regard to the intermediate bearings, these are grooved two thirds of the way round in accordance with the latest practice for the 25/30 HP. chassis. Handwritten note: Should not this be brought into line with the Bentley. BY/Mtn. | ||
