Cylinder troubles being our main weakness, anything that will help to improve the reliability of this assembly deserves careful attention. As the use of a slipping clutch spanner ensures correct loading on the top cylinder joints; its use should see a substantial reduction in trouble from this source, and its adoption should be seriously considered.

As a part of the spanner equipment, there is a device for checking the loading permitted by it.
