X8770 To. CJ. BJ. ) RG.{Mr Rowledge} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} ) E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ) FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} PN.{Mr Northey} ) SECRET. R3/M4.6.24. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C.11. SPEED MODEL. (Handwritten: X.9770, X.9940, X8770 crossed out, X.8420) I assume that CJ. is very anxious that BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} shall be in a position to instruct the material for EAC.2s. at the earliest possible moment, so that we can deliver as soon as the 10,000 miles have been satisfactorily completed. As far as I understand nearly all the work can be put in hand as is as follows :- FRAME. The frame, both for long andshort chassis, is like the 40/50 frame, but (1) altered slightly at the front end for 45" springs (2) has the joggle 1" further back to improve the coachwork, (3) has the extension at the back for petrol tank protecting luggage grid, and (4) in plan the rear width is increased 1". FRONT AND BACK AXLE. AND BRAKE. The front axle is as EAC.3. and the back axle is the ordinary 40/50 axle, but extended 1" in wheel track, and in spring pads. CROSS MEMBERS. The cross members are the same as 40/50 but 1" longer, except the front one which is a special design, sent many months ago. RADIATOR AND BONNET. The radiator design is already in the hands of Derby, and it and bonnet have been approved by Sales. DASHBOARD. The dashboard is wider and higher as instructed. contd:- | ||
