Servo for 5-B-IV.

This car has at present got a "direct to four wheels" braking system.

We wish to have this changed to the present standard "Direct to rear only" system with the servo specified below before it starts the 10,000 miles test.

The servo should be similar to that which we instructed in our memo. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}13/KW.2.11.34, for chassis B-23-AE, except for the arrangement of the splines for securing the linings. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1589 shows four male splines 0.875 wide on each lining engaging with corresponding female splines on the pressure plate and drum.

Messrs. Ferodo have informed us that it would halve the cost of the linings if the male splines were on the steel parts and the servo linings had female splines. We therefore want the servo of 5-B-IV to have splines arranged in this way.

Will you please detail the above modification to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1589 and fit it to chassis 5-B-IV. The servo linings should be in Ferodo VM.30 material.

We shall also require a pair of the servo cams to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1631 instructed in Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}2/KW.28.11.34 on this car.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/F.J.Hardy.
