To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} 1113 Cricklewood June 22nd. 1937 PHANTOM III. GEARBOX. Cricklewood called my attention to the poor bedding of the top synchromesh cone of a Phantom III. gearbox. The owner had complained of crashing. I advised and showed them how to obtain a good bedding. The bush for the bearing of the third motion shaft was very slack and allowed the top cone to rock over which does not help the synchromesh cone. I did not advise fitting a new bush knowing the danger of seizing. I would be pleased to know what clearance is given on production for this bearing.
