DUPLICATION BY FORDGRAPH

In order to get the best results with this method of duplication, the following notes are given in amplification of Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Ryc.1/T22.11.37.

Requisitions should be sent to the Stationery Stores for Fordigraph Duplicator Carbons and Master Copy Paper. Paper on which the copies are made will be supplied by the Duplicating Department.

The carbon should be placed face upwards behind the paper and typed or written leaving a carbon impression in reverse on the back of the paper; for good results typing should be as even as possible and a slightly heavy touch should be used. Stencil typing is preferable as the ribbon spreads the letters giving a blurred result.

Carbons should be stored in a cool place.

Care should be taken not to type on a part of the carbon which has been used, where a sheet has been fully used it should be scrapped after one typing.

When a master copy has been made it should be sent for duplication as soon as possible. There are two reasons for this:-

(a) If a master is kept lying about the carbon gets smeared over it, the resulting copies are not clean and letters are blurred.

(b) The carbon tends to dry out as it is a dye; if this occurs reproduction will be patchy, some letters not showing at all.

It is important to leave a margin of 3/4" at the head or foot of the page, to allow for clamping in the machine.
