re. 20-HP Valve Spring Breakages.

We send you herewith a valve spring which has failed. This was taken off chassis No. 768, a new chassis on test. The spring failed after 250 miles running, as a matter of fact, just prior to the chassis being finally passed off test for despatch.

We have a similar failure last week, and we have also had a further one this morning on chassis No. 773. I feel rather concerned that we have struck a batch of faulty material, as the appearance of the break rather shows an obvious flaw in the material.

I shall be glad if you will go into this matter as possibly you may feel that all springs which have been made with this batch of material should be replaced, and we shall be glad to know what action you propose to take in the matter.

We have only so far had one case of valve spring failure which in customer's hands. This was the case of Col. Ruston, Chassis 57-S-5, which was referred to in our report EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}/Thn5/H2.10.23.
