x6032 C. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst.4/MA. March 18th., 1933. Messrs. Joseph Lucas Ltd., Well Street, Birmingham, 19. Lucas High Frequency "Alto" Electric Horns. Dear Sirs, We are not satisfied with the performance these horns are giving us in view of several failures we regret to record with this type of horn. These failures have occurred in customers hands and on our experimental Chassis which are continually running endurance tests on the Continent. The failures we have observed have been due to:- (a) Rapid loss of pitch or tone due to small Bakelite contact pad hammering out. (b) Spring breakages. (c) Internal connection breakages. It appears that (a) and (b) are the more frequent cases of complaint, we have only had one failure due to (c) as far as we can ascertain. We should be glad to have your remarks on this subject as we must have horns on our chassis absolutely reliable and which require the minimum of attention. This was the case with the motor horns we previously fitted to our chassis of another make. | ||
