15th December.1933.

Dear Sirs,

BENTLEY HEADLAMPS

For the attention of Mr.Honeyman.

We thank you for your letter of the 11th instant with reference to the above, but as far as the undersigned recollects, the question of bringing any lamps which you have in London up-to-date was not discussed while Mr.West was in Birmingham and in view of the impossibility at this stage of giving you any definite indication as to when the new lamps will be available, you will understand that we cannot commit ourselves to do as you suggest.

As we explained to Mr.West, had the question of lighting not been raised by Derby you would not have heard anything of our intended modifications until we were in a position to give you a definite delivery promise. Moreover, the experimental lamps which Mr.West saw are intended as an entirely new model, and in all probability they will be slightly more expensive to manufacture than the ones you are now fitting, and while we feel that they will be more suitable for high speed touring, we cannot regard your existing lamps as being unsatisfactory. We also advised Mr.West that we were experimenting with some higher efficiency Bulbs rated at 48 watts and we believe that these will also show an improvement on those you are now using. We anticipate that supplies will be available in the very near future.
