It has been suggested that the fan drive be mounted on the end of the water pump on B.60 engine, utilising a similar belt arrangement to that already employed on B.80. On our latest water pump with the Tufnol bearings, we are very much afraid that the bearing will be inadequate to support the considerable extra loading due to this belt drive. We should be very glad therefore if you would design a water pump incorporating a ball bearing at the end to take the fan loading and if possible to take any end thrust which may develop so that the gland sealing washer can under no consideration have any extra end load than that provided by the gland spring. A boss for heater connections should also be fitted on the water pump inlet side. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ed.{J. L. Edwards} | ||
