Lucas submitted for test a further pair of headlamps, in which a slight modification had been made, in an attempt to cure fluttering. This consisted of the deletion of the rubber tip from the striking end of the dipper solinoid, and the strengthening of the reflector retaining spring. I arranged for this pair of lamps to be fitted to B.56.BN{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}, and with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} and By/RD carried out a road test. It was agreed by all that this pair of lamps was definitely worse, with regard to fluttering, than those recently tested and criticised for the same fault. We also tested a special reflector submitted by Messrs. Lucas for an improved spread. It was decided that although the spread was good with the car stationary, insufficient depth would cause it to be unsatisfactory with the car in motion. I have asked Messrs. Lucas to incorporate the spring toggle scheme in a standard lamp, to enable a road test to be carried out. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs} | ||
