DY{F R Danby}/HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} File DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}12/G.16.3.39. 442 BENTLEY V.{VIENNA} ENGINE REAR SUSPENSION. Please receive G.CD.1249 which shews some modifications to the arrangement shewn on G.CD.1060, partly due to an inspection of the model, and partly due to additional Experimental Department's requests. In order to improve the attachment of the cup carrying the torque rubber, especially if spot welded to the arm, we have lengthened the latter and increased the depth at the end, necessitating spreading the rubber centres. This will alter to some extent the characteristics of the rubbers. We have reluctantly arranged to substitute the Wraith bottom rubber for the B.V, because the moulds and dies for the former are made. This has resulted in an inferior type of engine tie being used. Should any trouble arise we can reinforce the fixing. The gearbox casting is modified, so that this suspension complete will come in with the new gearbox, but the upper arms and rubbers can be used at once if desired. Details urgently required.
