X 4338 3 EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} From Wd. {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} c. to R. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. c. to Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Ev. {Ivan Evernden - coachwork} RECEIVED Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 2/NJ7.6.21. X.4338 - Electrical Systems for "Goshawk 11". X.1402 X.4359 X4342 I shall be pleased to learn whether you have had a reply to yours EFC {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} 3/T30.5.21 to E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} You sent me a copy of said note and on receipt of same I wrote Mr.Breeden, of the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd. as follows:- "With regard to the proposition which you put before "us recently in respect to future working arrangements "between your firm and ourselves, Mr.Clark has written Mr. "Royce explaining that we here are very anxious to have "his views regarding this proposal, adding that I personally "am very strongly of the opinion that it is an offer which "we should not allow to pass without due consideration." In reply Mr.Breeden has written me as follows:- "I very much appreciate your remarks and would like "to say for your own information that we are working on a "scheme for voltage control of dynamos. At the moment it "is rather early to talk about it, but we have had some "very excellent results with a very simple apparatus so "far, and as I know this is a subject which has been "discussed very frequently at your Works and one that Mr. "Bailey has often suggested we should investigate, I "thought I would like to take the opportunity of giving "you this advance information." I have received from Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Thr. a note (Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Thr5/CB3.6.21) requesting me to order for experimental purposes in connection with "Goshawk 11":- 1 Special Smith 5S. Motor 1 " C.A.V. "SC" " 1 " Smith 4D. Dynamo 1 " C.A.V. 5" " 1 " Rotax AT.4 " With his note Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} /Thr. sent me copies of correspondence which has passed between us and Vandervells, Rotax, Smiths and Lucas, and I am disappointed to find that the Lucas Co. do not appear to have been invited to offer a motor and although they were asked to offer a dynamo not larger than 5-1/4"dia. and replied that their smallest was 5-3/4"dia., no discussion appears to have taken place with regard to same, and they do not appear to have been asked whether they were prepared to design a dynamo (contd) | ||
