Your comparative tests at Brooklands were very interesting, and for complete comparative purposes we consider you should take 'lap speeds'. Probably you did this; if so, we should be glad if you would let us know. As regards "spitting in the exhaust", this matter was taken up by H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} and Br.{T. E. Bellringer - Repair Manager} on their last visit to the Works (please refer to Minutes of Conference dated 22.9.33). With reference to the retard drive 'groan', this scheme has been dealt with experimentally and recommended by them, having already been proved out on a car, and we are anxious to confirm on a car available on which the results can be observed and if the cure is maintained. We prefer to do this prior to axle changeover, as the latter may be a waste of time. Having cured the groan, a definite value of axle noise can then be ascertained. We appreciate the importance of keeping this car running, and if you will give us notice when the car can be spared we will carry out the proposed work in the quickest possible time. EP.{G.
