Modifications for the India gearbox and floorboard clearance.

AJS1/M141225. dealing with the above, this matter has been taken up with R.{Sir Henry Royce} who considers that in view of what we understood from HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, that it was not necessary to use the oil transfer device indicated on GL.{G. Linnett}168., there will be no further scheme required from us, as R.{Sir Henry Royce} thinks for the time being the floorboard over the rear cover can be cut away. We shall in the future give consideration to this rear cover clearance, and see what we can do with regard to modifying it. Mr. Royce also says that in the event of the oil transfer scheme having been adopted subsequently without our knowledge, that Derby could make the slight modifications required to increase the floorboard clearance, these modifications being as follows:- (1) Reduction in the height of the forward facing as indicated on our LeC. drawing of the reduced cover. (2) The abandonment of the sandwiched steel plate carrying oil transfer pipe, and the rivetting of this to the cover itself. (3) If (1) and (2) causes the fouling of the oil transfer pipe with the brake cross shaft, the former could be modified in angle. (4) The cover can be considerably reduced in height and made similar to the special cover we recently sent you for getting the extra floorboard clearance. If you do find it necessary to make these modifications would you kindly forward us a print shewing what you have done. AJS.
