Our method of lacing the Hammond Lubri-Gaiter.

SOAK THE FELT LINING WITH THIN LUBRICATING OIL BEFORE FITTING.

To make this explanation as clear as possible, we refer to EDGE "A" by which we refer to that edge of the gaiter through which the long lace is already threaded, and knot tied at the end. EDGE "B" is of course the other one.

We have laced a Gaiter to assist you to follow these directions.

All eyelets in edge A are threaded from INSIDE to OUTSIDE.
ditto .. B .. ditto .. OUTSIDE to INSIDE.
All LOOPS passed over from EDGE of GAITER towards INSIDE.

Sequence of lacing is through eyelet in edge A then through eyelet in edge B and then the lace is passed over the loop. Then again through eyelet in edge A etc. until gaiter is laced up.

First loop is formed by lace passing from first to second eyelet, in edge A. {Mr Adams}
Each succeeding loop is formed by lace passing down and threading through eyelet in edge A. {Mr Adams}
CLOSING THICK END OF GAITER.

Each end of the cord in the loop at end of gaiter is passed through the eyelet in opposite edge (from inside to outside)

[Text obscured by 'RECEIVED' stamp] the cord are drawn tight, tied together and cut off.
NOTE. Do not tighten ends until you have partly laced up the gaiter with the long lace. ( IMPORTANT )

CLOSING THIN END OF GAITER.

The end of the long lace is threaded through the last eyelet in edge (inside to outside)
End of lace in loop at end of gaiter in edge B is threaded through the same last eyelet in edge of A and a knot is tied at the end.

X The other end of this lace is threaded through last eyelet in edge B (inside to outside) and is then drawn tight.

This end is then tied to the end of the long lace, and cut off.

...........

If it is your wish to test the merits of this gaiter on a rusty spring, first soak the felt pad with paraffin, and after the gaiter is fixed in position, fill the reservoir with paraffin for a few days, and afterwards use ordinary thin lubricating oil.

It is of course better to clean off all rust from the leaves of the spring to prevent the rust working out and soaking into the lubricating pad, which will naturally work better if kept clean and free from rust deposit.
