40/50 HP. RADIATORS.

We have carried out a large number of tests and have collected considerable data in connection with the possibility of alleviating boiling troubles on the 40/50 HP. We shall be sending in reports giving details of tests. Up-to-date, our conclusions are as follows :-

Heat units taken up by cooling water.

Our tests shew that the 40/50 HP. engine heats considerably more water than either the Hispano or the EAC. This can be explained by the fact that the 40/50 HP. is a large capacity engine with a very large combustion chamber surface and low compression engine. All these factors tend to increase the amount of heat delivered to the water.

Radiator.

Our radiator with fan, considering its face area, is relatively very efficient. We have carried out a test with the 40/50 HP. on the dynamometer by fixing the Hispano radiator in place of the R-R, still retaining the R.R. Fan. We found that this radiator was not as good for cooling as our own. Records taken on the road comparing the heat units given to the water with the heat units dissipated by the radiator show that our radiator is more efficient than the Hispano.

Fan Drives.

In comparison with the Hispano we are enormously
