K7410. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} O.M.C. E.F. Dept. BY/EM4/J.23.9.30. RECEIVED SEP 25 1930 Phantom II Chassis Road Springs. As you are probably aware, we have accumulated a considerable number of road springs of 1100 and 1200 lbs. load which have had to be removed from chassis because they are too light. In order to try and use up such springs if possible, we have obtained from Messrs Thomas Firth & Sons one pair of extra second plates which it is suggested should be fitted on a pair of springs in addition to the second plates already fitted, that is to say, that we have two second plates to each of these springs. This of course will necessitate new clips and bolts and 'F' Dept. have prepared a scheme shewing the addition of this extra plate. The pair of springs we have selected together with the pair of extra plates are in the Spring Inspection Department at the moment. We shall be glad if these can be obtained and built as suggested above and tested out as soon as possible so that if satisfactory we can use up our stock of springs of these poundages by this means.
