As regards deletion of side-guards, the gain from the point of view of petrol pump temperature is very small - however, since this would save cost of weight, it is desirable to do so if possible. We are experimenting at the moment with various guards, valances, etc. with a view to keeping the engine clean while dispensing with the present sideguards.
