Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 319 re PHANTOM III CLUTCH "SQUEAL" - POSSIBLE COMPLAINT during our final acceptance test the other day due to the above, but after further tests and discussion with Mx.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} and the Experimental Department, ~~we~~ agreed to accept it as the best we can do at present. The feature was not so marked when driven normally, and it is a recognised fault which is having the attention of the Experimental Department. In such cases we make a special point of noting its behaviour during our complete car test since, if it is then considered unwise to deliver to the customer, we may by that time be able to fix some improvement which has in the meantime been ascertained by the Experimental Department. On the contrary, it may be necessary to replace the whole clutch, as some do not appear to suffer from this trouble. I bring this forward to your attention as I feel it is a point you should.put on your agenda for your chassis conferences, so that the matter will have serious attention, as I feel sure it is a complaint which will sooner or later be raised by customers. [Handwritten text] Pom Is this a new complaint! Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Agree complaint, cured by a flexible clutch centre which we are developing. Borg & Beck clutch centre cures the trouble on Bentley & 25/30. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
