X719 V3409 Expl: Dept: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}2/LG. 12th. Feb. 1926. Messrs. Ferodo, Chapel-en-le-Frith. Dear Sirs, We are sending you a portion of 'Ferobestos' lining which has completed one of our 10,000 miles tests. It will be observed that this has almost worn down to the shoe. We consider its life is between half and one-third that of our standard lining, and therefore cannot see any possibility of its being adopted. We are still having considerable trouble with brake squeaks. We should be interested to know whether you have had any experience of the method of eliminating squeaks suggested in the attached cutting. Our position at present is this. With our powerful servo motors we can afford to use a brake lining material with a co-efficient of friction lower than that of your standard Ferodo, if by doing so we can avoid brake squeaks. We should, of course, put up the unit pressure to get the same retardation. Is there any chance of your being able to submit such a material to us for test? Thanking you in anticipation. Yours faithfully, | ||
