- 2 - There is one point, however, I think we may have to worry, that is under winter conditions the heat from the shutters is close at a higher temperature. Some days we have had a lot of frost from the hot exhaust when idling. Therefore, the effect of exhaust cooling is to heat from the engine and so has very little with the present scheme of acceleration suffers. I am sure there will be a demand for average higher temperature. To sum up the position here at the moment, the officials at Springfield are very pleased with SS{S. Smith}-LXV our support for the Winter. There is a difference of opinion on the question of springing. Hives claims that the car is not sprung as well as their standard cars. I have told them that before I can accept that I shall need to be convinced by their producing a car of a similar type which gives a better ride. Although it is open to question as regards the Chassis-K car and the Springfield car as regards idling, there is no question whatever that, for high speed country work, we have got to do all we can to give a better ride.
