make a comparison between this and the Bijur type vibrator regulator.

The first difference from the Bijur apart from the fact of using a controlled dynamo in place of a shunt machine, is perhaps the fact of using a much higher resis- tance relatively to the dynamo field. This would not be possible in the Bijur apparatus because of the destruction of the contacts. The second difference is the fact that this high resistance isw wound on the operating core. This converts the high frequency infinitesimal travel dithering contacts of the Bijur into a low frequency full travel vibrator regulator. In this second form, however, the system would, as explained, be liable to a low frequency full travel vibration giving a flickering supply on light consuming load. It is still in a sense a vibrator regulator of the dynamo P.D. The third difference is the removal of the negative connection to the shunt coil to the battery side of the cutout. This still further increases the period of vibration, making it very long, for whereas previously this period was determined by the rate at which the dynamo would excite and disexcite, now it becomes determined by the rate at which the battery voltage can rise and fall. It is still in a sense a vibrator regulator but of the battery voltage and with a very long period, the period of the changes being so long as not to be objectionable. It also has the further advantage that the duty of the contact points is so greatly reduced.
