Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Ex Wo X1588 Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}3/T8.9.27 re Oil in Steering Box. Some time ago we recommended the use of Prices Motorine B.oil instead of C. for use in the Steering Box (C being the universal oil for use in the engine) as it had definite advantages over C for sticking steerings. I should now like to recommend Amber A oil for use in the steering box, this is the standard gear box oil. After a number of tests I am satisfied that the use of Amber A represents a still further advantage, and is as great an advantage over B. as B. was over C. I do not know of any disadvantage in using Amber A, and believe you are conducting similar tests. I should like to know if you are in agreement with using Amber A.{Mr Adams} for the steering of both chassis, if you do we should like to commence straight away. One point in favour of Amber A is that it is an oil already in use on the chassis, and is not specially for the steering as was the B. Mx{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} | ||
