Rolles Royce Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Mr. Robotham, I had the opportunity of seeing Mr. Skinner last night immediately on his return from Ireland, and I have reported to him the result of my visit to Derby and my interview with you. Mr. Skinner is definitely averse to the use of a separate jet for slow running purposes and as I think you are in agreement in this matter, it seems a pity to depart from the principle of absolute continuity of action which otherwise characterises our carburetter. Frankly, although we have been experimenting for some time along these lines, we have not so far met with any great success. It is, of course, a very simple matter to provide for idling in this way, and obviously the performance of the carburetter, once the throttle is open, is unaffected, the difficulty of course, lies in effecting a change-over from the pilot to the main jet. At the moment, and judging from the carburetter I saw in action last week, the slow running we can provide on this particular carburetter appears to be satisfactory. continued:- [STAMP: THE SOCIETY OF MOTOR MANUFACTURERS & TRADERS LTD] [STAMP: ENGINEERING AND ALLIED EMPLOYERS NATIONAL FEDERATION 1918] | ||
