Chassis With reference to your telephone talk with Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} on the 28th ultimo, when it was agreed that in the absence of experience with All-Steel Bodies on the new chassis, it would be undesirable to order such bodies for production chassis, please note arrangements have now been made for the first batch of bodies to have wooden frames with steel panels. As you know Park Ward & Co. had already partially constructed in steel a Close-coupled Four-light Saloon with a division and we are, of course, under a sort of obligation to take this off their hands. You will remember that when you were at Park Wards' works recently, you inspected this body which has flange type runners and is shown in the attached blue print No.15199. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} suggests this body should be finished and taken over by The Experimental Dept. and run by them. They should surrender to us in exchange a body in decent condition which we can have renovated and sold. Will you please let me know as soon as you can which body they will give us in exchange for the body in question which can be painted and upholstered to choice. The suggestion is that they should tell us their wishes about the finish so that Park Ward can paint and trim the body. They will be told in due course when this work has been done so that a time can be fixed for your car to go to Park Ward's works for the bodies to be changed over. We should have liked the flange runners of this body replaced by others of box section but Park Ward tell us change is impossible. As, however, it seems to be established that the runners of any Steel Bodies built for sale to the public should be of box section we ought to test a body with such runners. Can you suggest how such a test could be made please? C. Stamp: BY 12 AUG 1938 RECEIVED | ||
