Dear Sirs,

For the attention of Mr.West.

With reference to the Relay Unit which you had returned specially to us for examination, alleging that the points had welded together; this has been thoroughly examined and we detail the findings hereunder.

Although the Silver Contacts on the first Relay are badly discoloured through arcing, there are practically no signs of actual welding.

On the Bench the Relay worked satisfactorily with a pair of WT11 Horns. There was a slight alteration in the setting, and this we suggest is probably caused through damage in service, since the bakelite cover is cracked and the metal relay cover damaged, and the seal was missing when the unit was received here.

Under these circumstances, perhaps you would care to revise your opinion on this relay, and if you wish we could have it returned to you for your further examination, but we do not consider that the faults in this relay could be put down to bad design, but a great deal to ill useage in service.

One other point which we do not of course make a great deal of, is that this relay was one of the original Engineering samples sent to you in November 1935, which makes it in the region of 18 months old.

Perhaps when you are having a word with the undersigned on the telephone, you would mention this subject and state whether you wish the relay returned to you just as we received it here.

Yours faithfully,
JOSEPH LUCAS LIMITED.
